“Overpriced Seafood” Sold by Vendors at Island in Panglao, Bohol
Overpriced seafood sold by vendors in Panglao Bohol was complained about by other tourists, government suspends boat trips to Island.
This came about as a result of yesterday’s viral social media post of Vilma Uy, about the overpriced seafood prices on the Island. Last Friday, a group of tourists spent nearly Php. 26,000 on a lunch they had while visiting the area.
Uy posted on her Facebook account, “Just airing the sentiments of my friend who recently enjoying their vacation in bohol, pero na shock sila sa ila bill.. mahal pa sa buffet sa HENNAN resort,” Uy captioned. Her post garnered various reactions and comments from nitizens.
According to the post, Uy couldn’t help but voice her displeasure after knowing that her friend had been charged more than their expectation.
Among the foods they purchased were 20 pieces of banana for Php. 900 and “kilawin fish” that cost as much as Php. 3,000. She stated also that the food is supposedly good for 13 people.
Uy recently posted on her Facebook that she did not intend to destroy business but to inform those people who are planning to go on a vacation with a small budget. She also gave his phone number to people who are concerned and want to ask questions about the said issue.
Meanwhile, Bohol is a well-known tourist attraction because of its fine white sand beaches and very well-known Chocolate hills. The islands in Panglao are one of the well-known island resorts in the said area.
The COVID-19 epidemic has usually had an impact on tourism. The tourism sector is progressively reviving as the nation slowly returned to normal. Resorts and shops in Bohol are nearly open.
However, the suspension of motorbanca trips to Panglao’s island has been mandated by Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado. An ongoing Investigation into the overpriced issue involving exorbitant seafood prices in the area is conducted.
Aumentado claimed in a statement on Facebook, that the municipal administration of Bohol was concerned about the story. He said that he had called an urgent meeting to address the situation.
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco congratulated Aumentado and Panglao Mayor Boy Arcay for looking into the situation. The DOT has joined forces with the government of Bohol to solve this problem and prevent it from happening again.
