VP Binay Concedes Defeat To Presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte
Vice President Jejomar Binay concedes defeat to presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte and congratulated him as well on Thursday.
In a report in Inquirer, the communications director of Binay, Joey Salgado, said that Binay recently had a talk with Duterte to congratulate the incoming President Duterte for winning the 2016 Elections.
“We confirm that Vice President Binay has talked to President-elect Duterte. He extended his congratulations and wished the president-elect all the best,” Salgado said as quoted it the report.
Also, the executive assistant of Duterte, Christopher “Bong” Go confirmed that Binay made a call of congratulations to Duterte.
Binay earlier said that he would wait for the final count of the election returns before conceding defeat because of the possibility of glitches that will question the integrity of the polls.
“There are VCMs (vote counting machines) that came out with different results. There were VCMs that bogged down. There were results that were just unbelievable,” said Binay as he lost heavily in Cebu.
He added that he can’t believe that results of the election returns in Cebu since he only got 69,000 votes even though, according to him, he’s been shaking hands with at least 100,000 people in the province.
Binay also expressed himself about filing an electoral protest and answered that everything is possible in the world.
The Vice President is still on the fourth place in the Presidential race having 5,315,127 votes in the partial and unofficial results in from the COMELEC transparency server as of 1:45 PM, May 13, 2016
