Marcos Leads The VP Race in OAV Tally
Based on the final and the unofficial tally of the Commission on Elections on overseas absentee voting (OAV), Marcos leads the VP race gaining almost twice of the votes garnered by the Liberal Party vice presidential candidate, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo on Saturday, May 14.
Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said in a twitter post that Maros leads the VP race in the OAV count with 176,669 votes over Robredo garnering 89,935 votes. It is expected that the data would take big effects on the trend given that most transparency servers show, there are only 216,000 which separates Robredo and Marcos.
The OAV votes are being monitored diligently as it is expected to change the trend in the close fight between the two aspirant for the vice presidential seat. A total of 432,706 overseas Filipinos voted in 82 different Philippine diplomatic posts across the globe during the given voting period from April 9 to May 9 respectively. This is out of the 1,376,067 million total of overseas Filipinos worldwide.
On the other hand, Comelec Commissioner Arthur Lim, head of the OAV committee is pleased to inform the public that it is a big improvement on the turnout of the overseas Filipino having 31.4 percent of the total registered voters compared to the 2013 midterm elections where there is only 16 percent turnout of votes.
The commissioner also cited that one of the reasons for not meeting the target 50 to 60 percent voter turnout is due to the level of efficiency of the postal service and “high mobility” of overseas Filipinos.
