New President, VP Might Be Proclaimed May 30, Says Sen. Koko Pimentel
Sen. Koko Pimentel said that the proclamation of the new president and vice president of the Republic of the Philippines might be officially known on Monday, May 30.
According to an article by Rappler, Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, head of the Senate contingent of the National Boards of Canvassers (NBOC), stated that they finished 45 out of 165 certificates of canvass (COCs) on the first day of canvassing, May 25.
According to Pimentel, with the rate of their canvassing, they are assuming to finish the canvassing on Monday, May 30. He added that the announcement shall also be done right after the canvassing as it doesn’t need to be delayed.
Even the former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal even commended the pace of the canvassing of the votes.
“The canvassing proceedings at the NBOC is at a pace faster than the 2010 automated presidential elections. This is good,” said Larrazabal on Twitter as quoted in the article.
Meanwhile, while the winning of the president-elect Rodrigo Duterte is just crystal clear, the vice presidential race still seemed muddy and complex.
The camp of vice presidential candidate Sen. Marcos has asked the NBOC considering a separate proclamation of the new president and the new vice president.
According to Pimentel, the separate proclamation was “theoretically possible” but must be avoided at all costs unless really needed.
“You only separate the proclamation for serious reasons which you cannot cure or because of time, you really have to proceed with partial proclamation,” Pimentel said. Then you do it. If it can be avoided, normal and natural thing to do, proclaim all of the winners together.”
