Dr. Gideon Lasco’s viral photo
Usually, when we came across a viral post or photos on Facebook, we can say that the photo or that certain post has gone viral because it contains attractive feature like celebrities doing something unusual and cute, or that certain photo has an interesting subject.
But this one photo below has gone viral in an unexpected way. Not because the subject that can be seen in the photo is beautiful, not because the photo has an interesting subject but because the photo has a beautiful and interesting back story.
This viral photo is a perfect example of a picture telling a thousand words. Who would expect that this very simple photo of a small shanty than can be seen on the top of a mountain would capture thousands of hearts on the internet?
This post has now 30 thousand likes and more than 5 thousand shares. This photo was posted by one certain Gideon Lasco, and he no doubts taken Facebook by storm.
Gideon Lasco shared the heartwarming story behind the photo on his post. He is a physician, a mountaineer, a medical anthropologist and a blogger.
As he begins his story with, “I used to lose cellphones all the time. I lost my phone to knife-bearing ‘h0ldapers’ while riding a jeepney in E. Rodriguez, Quezon City and to a snatcher on a Manila-bound bus from Batangas…..”
It is pretty obvious that he is prone to losing his phone in various circumstances. But as the story continues Gideon Lasco’s experience of losing his gadget while traveling in a particular place in Maguindanao helped him to see what’s beyond “an often misunderstood part of the Philippines.”
As the story goes deeper he continued, “In any case, even if the disappearance happened anywhere else in the Philippines, I honestly thought that there was no chance that I could ever get my phone back…”
