The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) released its afternoon weather forecast for May 16, 2025, highlighting the continuing effects of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and prevailing easterlies across the country.

According to Pagasa, the ITCZ is currently affecting Mindanao, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the region. Eastern Visayas and Palawan are also experiencing similar weather conditions due to the same weather system. These areas may face possible flash floods or landslides, particularly in low-lying or mountainous areas, as moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall is expected throughout the day.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to be influenced by easterlies. These regions will generally experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. While rainfall in these areas is expected to be localized, Pagasa warns that severe thunderstorms may still cause flash floods or landslides, particularly in flood-prone communities.
Wind and coastal water conditions across the country remain manageable. Luzon and Visayas are expected to experience light to moderate winds coming from the east to southeast, resulting in slight to moderate coastal waters ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters in wave height. Mindanao will also experience light to moderate winds, but from the east to northeast direction, with similar sea conditions expected.
For the 24 hours ending at 4:00 PM today, the maximum recorded temperature was 35.1°C at 1:00 PM, while the minimum temperature dropped to 25.7°C at 4:30 AM. Humidity levels ranged from a low of 48% at 1:00 PM to a high of 87% early at 5:00 AM.
Pagasa advises the public to remain updated through its official platforms and to take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides. As thunderstorms continue to develop across the country due to prevailing weather systems, residents are urged to stay alert and follow the guidance of local disaster response authorities.
