American filmmaker who was being accused of pedophilia and human trafficking in Cebu is said to be a victim of EJK, according to his family
American documentary filmmaker Jesse Phinney was found dead inside the toilet of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detention facility in Cebu City and his family believes that he is a victim of extra judicial killing (EJK).
The 42-year old documentarist is being accused of pedophilia and human trafficking in the said area, based on the recent report of Inquirer.
He was arrested by NBI last December 4, 2017 but less than 24 hours after being detained, he was already found dead.
According to the report, the investigating agency claimed that the Boston native filmmaker committed suicide while he was in detention.
On the other hand, the family of Phinney does not believe the claim of NBI.
They are demanding answers on what they think as a suspicious incident that happened to the American filmmaker.
The bureau said that the alleged pedophile committed suicide through hanging himself using a belt.
This statement from the authorities who detained the 42-year old is unbelievable according to the members of Phinney’s family.
For them, it was a false arrest, failed extortion, a murder and a government cover-up.
According to them, the surrounding circumstances on the death of their family member while in police custody must be investigated thoroughly.
They also pointed out that Phinney was a “big-hearted, gentle and generous man who found his purpose in helping people in Third World countries build sustainable homes using wind and solar,” based on the report.
Furthermore, the widow of the American filmmaker stated that her husband is a victim of EJK in the country and she promises that she will spend the rest of her life to clean the reputation of Phinney and prove that the crimes he is being accused of are not true.
