Marcoleta served as the Party-list Representative for SAGIP since 2016, and as a House Deputy Speaker in the 18th Congress since July 2019 under the leadership of Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Lord Allan Velasco.

He’s also known as the proponent of slashing the budget of the Commission on Human Rights to 1,000 pesos.

Aside from that, he’s one of the vocal opponents of ABS-CBN and is among the 70 representatives who voted to permanently deny the franchise renewal of the Kapamilya Network.

In September 2021, Marcoleta was nominated by the PDP–Laban political party to run for the 2022 Philippine Senate elections.

But twelve days before the elections, he had dropped out of his senatorial bid.

Commission on Elections (COMELEC) en banc approved his withdrawal and the votes which he will earn during the May 9 elections will be considered “stray votes,” meaning they will not be officially counted by the poll body.

In an official statement, he cited one of the reasons why he decided to withdraw his senatorial bid.

Here’s the official statement of Marcoleta:

According to him, his low survey ratings were the main reason why he backed out of the senatorial race.

Marcoleta on the other hand thanked President Rodrigo Duterte, PDP-Laban, the People’s Reform Party and UniTeam for the support he received.

PDP-Laban, his political party, has yet to release a statement with regards to his decision to drop his senatorial bid.
