Summertime also means beach time and as you enjoy doing activities under the sun, it is also inevitable to get your skin burn.
Here are some tips to treat your sunburn.
ICE – Do not directly apply ice on your skin but instead wrap it in a towel and put on the affected area.
COOL WATER – Cool bath or shower can help ease the pain as well as the moist compress but make sure it’s not too cold. Do not use or scrub on your skin oils, soap, or bubble bath.
ALOE VERA – Split the aloe vera leaf and apply the sap directly to skin. There are also aloe vera gel products available in drugstores. This can ease discomfort and speed the healing, aside from its moisturizing properties.
HONEY – According to Kathi Kemper, M.D., author of The Holistic Pediatrician, “studies suggest it (honey) may work better than some antibiotic creams at speeding up healing, reducing infection, and minimizing pain.” However, it is not applicable for children younger than 12 months. OATMEAL – Pulverizing a cup of instant or slow-cooking oatmeal in a blender or food processor until it has a smooth, fine consistency. Pour it in lukewarm water and soak. This works as an anti-inflammatory.
WITCH HAZEL – Wet a washcloth or cotton gauze with witch hazel and apply to the skin three or four times a day for 20 minutes. This also serves as an anti-inflammatory and can also help ease the pain and itching.
MILK – Apply milk to your skin using a washcloth of cotton gauze. It will create protein film that helps reduce the heat and discomfort.
BAKING SODA or CORNSTARCH – Mix baking soda or cornstarch in your bathwater. This is one of the natural remedies that can reduce inflammation and itching.
CIDER VINEGAR – Soak in lukewarm water with one up of cider vinegar. This will help reduce pain, itching, and inflammation.
CORIANDER OIL – Applying coriander oil to sunburns can reduce inflammation, according to studies.
